Using Collaboration Patterns for Contextualizing Roles in Community Systems Design
نویسنده
چکیده
Activation of collaborative communities is hampered by the communicative fragmentation that is at least partially caused by their distributed tool systems. We examine the role of domain, conversation, and functionality roles in modelling community activation. We show how collaboration patterns can be used to design appropriate socio-technical solutions. These patterns contextualize the various types of roles by linking them to the (1) relevant usage context (2) communicative workflow stages and (3) functionality components across the tool

Collaboration Patterns in an Online Community of Practice in Oral Medicine
SOMWeb is an online collaboration system based on Semantic Web technologies, which is used for knowledge sharing and dissemination within an oral medicine community in Sweden. Based on a previous study of the use of SOMWeb, general patterns of interaction and communicative activities involved in community collaboration have been identified. The patterns for one such activity, distance consultat...
متن کاملThe Role of Roles in Computer-mediated Interaction
Roles coin any social interaction. In this paper, we present basic practices for designing roles in collaboration settings. These patterns should help the designer of collaborative systems to reflect roles in the system design and thereby steer group interaction.
متن کاملLeaving the World Behind: Supporting Group Collaboration Patterns in a Shared Virtual Environment for Product Design
Virtual reality technology is increasingly being applied to globally distributed teams engaged in collaborative product design. Observations of product design teams have suggested four distinct patterns of collaboration—complementary, competitive, peer-to-peer, and leader-follower. Another insight from observation is that collaboration consists of fluid transitions between these patterns in the...
متن کاملWhat Can Policy-Makers Get Out of Systems Thinking? Policy Partners’ Experiences of a Systems-Focused Research Collaboration in Preventive Health
Background There is increasing interest in using systems thinking to tackle ‘wicked’ policy problems in preventive health, but this can be challenging for policy-makers because the literature is amorphous and often highly theoretical. Little is known about how best to support health policy-makers to gain skills in understanding and applying systems thinking for policy action. <br /...
متن کاملCollaboration Between Researchers and Knowledge Users in Health Technology Assessment: A Qualitative Exploratory Study
Background Collaboration between researchers and knowledge users is increasingly promoted because it could enhance more evidence-based decision-making and practice. These complex relationships differ in form, in the particular goals they are trying to achieve, and in whom they bring together. Although much is understood about why partnerships form, relatively little is known about how collabora...
